What to Expect
Part of our commitment as a Worldcon is to bring exciting digital contact to members who have purchased either an attending or a virtual membership. As described below, we will need help from volunteers to carry this off! Here is a description of the kinds of digital offerings we plan for this Worldcon:
Live Streaming and Replays
We are equipped to stream out content from up to eight rooms at the Seattle Convention Center. Streaming content will be recorded and available to any convention member for replay after the event and remain available for a limited time after the convention, so you can go back and review what was said, or see what you missed. Depending on the availability of volunteers, there may be an opportunity for members attending virtually to ask questions relayed to the room.
All-Virtual Panels
Some panels, readings, etc. will be natively virtual, with all panelists interacting remotely. One of our priorities with virtual panels is to truly put the “world” in Worldcon by reaching out to groups of fans around the world to solicit panel discussions in their local time zone. If you are part of a local convention or fan group outside the Pacific Time Zone and would like to submit a panel or event for consideration, email us your panel suggestion and suggested panelist information at virtualprogram@seattlein2025.org. Much of this content will extend beyond our normal operating hours, and like regular streaming panels will be available afterwards for member replay.
Interactive Opportunities
We will have a member Discord to permit interaction between members who have attending memberships and virtual memberships. Besides a place to chat, this will be a natural spot to continue discussions that start in our panel rooms. But that isn’t all! We also plan to have game tournaments, video walkthroughs of the Exhibit Hall, and more. If there is something in particular you want to see or do as part of the virtual side of the convention, please let us know by email to virtual@seattlein2025.org.
We Need Volunteers!
Our single biggest constraint on offering rich digital content is volunteers. If you’re interested in helping make digital content a reality, please fill out our volunteer interest form and mention virtual as the relevant division. You’ll hear back from us shortly! A list of the specific help we’re currently looking for can be found in the list of currently available roles on our Volunteer page. If you have something else you’d like to contribute, put your idea or area of expertise in the form and we’ll be in touch.
We’ve been thrilled to hear how excited people are for our digital content this year. We look forward to working with you to make the virtual side of our convention the best it can be.
