Consultative Vote

Seattle Worldcon Business Meeting Consultative Vote

Building on the success of the consultative vote held in 2024 by the Glasgow Worldcon, Seattle Worldcon will hold a consultative vote of WSFS members on two of the proposed Constitutional amendments passed on from the Glasgow 2024 Business Meeting to the Seattle Worldcon: the proposed revisions of the Hugo Award categories for Best Professional Artist and Best Fan Artist, and the proposed amendment to abolish the Retro Hugo Awards.

Purpose

The purpose of the consultative vote is to test whether this type of vote is feasible, in case the practice is someday adopted as a formal part of the WSFS decision-making process. These proposals were chosen because they have clearly generated wide interest among the Worldcon community.

The consultative vote results will be used solely to inform the Seattle Business Meeting of the preferences of a sample of the membership. Glasgow 2024’s consultative vote allowed over 1,200 WSFS members to share their opinion on a proposed amendment.

Timing

The consultative vote runs from May 1 to May 31 and is accessed through the member registration portal in the same manner as the Hugo Award voting.

Deadline

All consultative vote ballots must be received by May 31, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. PDT (UTC-7).

Voting on the Consultative Votes

In NomNom, the consultative vote is called the “Advisory Vote.”

From any other page, click “advisory vote” at the top of the screen.

We are conducting advisory (consultative) votes on two resolutions that were voted on at Glasgow’s Business Meeting and must be ratified at Seattle’s Business Meeting. You will vote in each one individually by selecting it from the Advisory Votes page.

The individual resolution pages have the text of the proposed change as well as brief arguments for and against the proposal to assist with your decision making.

At the bottom of the page there are “yes” and “no” buttons. Select yes if you support the proposed change, and select no if you do not. Like your Hugo Award votes, these can be changed any time until the deadline; in this case, May 31, 2025.

After selecting either yes or no, you will see an X beside your choice.

To navigate to the other proposal, scroll back to the top of the page and click the link “Back to the list of proposals.”
