The initial name for the shop in 1976 was The United Metropolitan Improved Crumpet Baking & Punctual Delivery Company. Customers nodded, smiled, and called it The Crumpet Shop. A fabulous quick breakfast or lunch option, The Crumpet Shop on First Avenue by the entrance to Pike Place Market is a real gem. Now owned and run by the second generation, this shop churns out delicious crumpets and buttermilk scones and serves them up with a variety of toppings. House-made lemon curd and their “green eggs and ham” are highly recommended. In the tradition of Pike Place area food, the shop itself is tiny, but the food is reasonably portable, so get it to go.
