Local Flavor: Sushi and the Seattle Roll

The oldest sushi restaurant in Seattle, Maneki, opened in 1904, and is still going strong today. While sushi was largely relegated to the International District until the 1980s, its popularity has spread across the region. Seattle’s easy access to quality fresh seafood and large Asian-American population have made sushi as common in the local food landscape as pizza and tacos. We even have a makizushi roll named for Seattle, which contains salmon, cream cheese, nori, and either cucumber or avocado. Take advantage of the proximity to fresh seafood and Seattle’s widespread appreciation for sushi when you are here for Seattle Worldcon 2025!
